Shubhankar Milind Potdar
I work as a Machine Vision R&D Engineer at Koh Young Research Canada(KYRC) in Vancouver, Canada, which is the research arm of Koh Young Technology(KYT).
KYT makes machines which utilize machine vision technologies and optomechatronics for providing optical inspection and measurement solutions for semiconductor and chip manufacturing factories. These machines utililize a mixture of classical and deep learning based CV and ML techniques to inspect millions of components, and flag defective ones, every day across the world and are an essential part of the modern semiconductor and chip manufacturing pipelines. It is very likely that some components in the device that you are using to read this website were once inspected by a KYT machine (and possibly by an algorithm developed by our team
)
As a R&D Engineer, my task is to develop machine vision algorithm which will be utilized by KYT machines world wide. This involves first developing a prototype from scratch in Python, then developing production code in C++ and finally deploying on KYT machines through CI/CD. For more specific information regarding my projects at KYT please read my resume.
Academic Research Interest:
Broadly, I am interested in solving hard problems in Computer Vision and Robotics using tools from various fields like Machine Learning, Statistics and Geometry.
Previously:
I was a Master’s student in Carnegie Mellon University’s (CMU) Electrical and Computer Engineering Department in Pittsburgh, PA. I was also research intern in Prof. Katerina Fragidiaki’s lab in CMU’s Machine Learning Deparment where I worked on unsupervised object detection and tracking. During my master’s, I also had a chance to work in Prof. Mario Saviddes’s lab on fine-grained object classification.
During my undegrad at VJTI, in Mumbai, India, I worked on robot localization and path planning in mobile robots and learning by demonstration in humanoid robot’s under the guidance of Prof. Faruk Kazi.
